Detailed Itinerary of the 5 Days Budget Congo Gorillas & Chimpanzee Safari
Day 1: Arrival Kigali-Kisoro
Upon arrival, you will be picked up by a company representative/ guide who will transfer you to various safari attractions like the Gisozi Genocide Memorial center where you will spot various video clips, photographs and artifacts of the tragic event of the genocide. You will later on proceed for lunch in Kigali then later transfer to the border of Uganda to cross to Kisoro Uganda where you will go direct to your lodge/ hotel for dinner and overnight. Mount Gahinga lodge, Kisoro Travellers Nest, Kisoro tourist Hotel.
Day 2: Gorilla trekking in Virunga National Park
You will wake up early in the morning take breakfast then transfer on a journey of about 9 kilometers across the Bunagana border to the DR Congo then proceed 6 kilometers to Virunga National Park headquarters. After sometime, you will reach the park and transfer to the park headquarters where you will be briefed about the Dos and Don’ts around the Mountain Gorillas ten later with an experienced ranger, you will penetrate the forest to search for the rare species of Mountain Gorillas.
When you meet them after looking for them for a period of 3-5 hours, you will spend an hour interacting with them through taking various photos. After this, you will transfer back to your lodge/ hotel for dinner and overnight. Mikeno lodge, Bukima Tented Camp.
Day 3: Guided Nature/ Community Walk
Wake up in the morning take breakfast then transfer to experience a guided nature walk through the thick forest vegetation towards the caves which are traversed by a river. You will also transfer through the local people to taste traditionally brewed beer then later transfer to the coffee plantations where you will learn about coffee processing and the steps to follow to make tasty coffee.
Along the walk you will spot various bird species as well as monkeys and small animals. After the walk, you will transfer back to your lodge/ hotel for dinner and overnight. Mikeno Lodge, Bukima Tented Camp.
Day 4: Chimpanzee Trekking in Tongo Forest
Wake up early have breakfast then transfer for briefing on the code of conduct around the Chimpanzee then later in groups of 8 with a park ranger guide, enter the forest to track the Chimpanzees for 2-4 hours following them on different tracks and when you meet them take various photos to keep for memories. After Chimpanzee Trekking, proceed back to your lodge for Dinner and Overnight.
Day 5: Departure to Kigali
Wake up in the morning take breakfast then depart to Kigali to board your flight back home.
